The Assistant Director position reports to the Executive Director of Salt Lake Legal Defender Association which has about 180 employees, made up of 100 attorneys, 22 social service team members, 10 investigation team members, 32 legal assistants, 6 file processors, and law clerks and externs.

The Assistant Director will work with the Leadership Team that consists of 10 felony attorney leaders, 2 justice court leaders (misdemeanors), social service and investigation leaders, and legal assistant leaders.

The role is responsible to review, develop, and implement systems for SLLDA, including conflict identification, litigation expenses, hiring and development of employees, budget, and all aspects of leading the organization.

Salt Lake Legal Defender Association is an independent non-profit organization that represents individuals in Salt Lake County who have been accused of crimes and are indigent.  The organization is predominantly funded by Salt Lakew County, with additional funding from other governmental entities and grants.

 

Requirements
Licensed to practice law in Utah 5 years of experience in criminal defense, and preferably public criminal defense Experience leading teams is preferred Interest in working with community and funding partners. Enjoy working with employees in various roles, including, legal assistants, social services, investigators, file processors and attorneys. Enjoy working with third party providers including technology, accounting, benefits, legal and other provider. Curiosity and an interest in continuous improvement.
