Assistant Parent Defender

• Knowledge of:  North Carolina law and procedure governing Chapter 7B (Subchapter 1); Federal constitutional law; and North Carolina common law and constitutional law.
• Skills and Abilities: The person in this position should be able to work efficiently under time pressure and prioritize multiple tasks and projects. The person should have excellent writing and communication skills. The person in this position must be able to analyze facts, identify the relevant law, and apply it to those facts; conduct thorough legal research efficiently; and express complex legal concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
• Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and an active license to practice law in North Carolina.

Management Preferences: This is a mid-level attorney position, seeking applicants with 5 years or more experience practicing law. Experience as a trial attorney in child welfare. Training experience. Experience with grant writing and contract systems.
