Course Description:

This four week course is part 1 of a 3 part series intended for anyone working in indigent defense, in any job category, who would like to increase their understanding of the how racism impacts us and the systems we work in, as well as to develop some concrete strategies to address these concerns.   Part 1 of the series will focus on the issues concerning personal racism, identity, and other relevant topics related to ones individual relationship with race and bias.  This course is designed to support the individual development of cognitive strategies related to anti-bias issues, to promote a communitarian approach in creating a public defense culture of humility, and ultimately to advocate for systemic change to support clients and colleagues in indigent defense work, thereby increasing access to justice.
