Stand With Them: NAPD’s New Podcast

I am not a podcaster. I am not a tech guru, an IT person, or the person you should call when you’re having computer problems (“Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?”)
 
So,  you can imagine my chagrin when I convinced NAPD to let me do a podcast where I interview heroes of the public defense world; where all the interviews, edits, and posting were done by me.
 
Armed with my old MacBook Pro, some headphones, and Skype, I set off on a journey to get this podcast off the ground. And today, we’re ready to launch and welcome this podcast baby into the world.  More episodes are already planned. Interviews are in the works. In the future, we plan to make these podcasts available through ITunes, as well as the current platform on Sound Cloud. Moreover, episodes will be archived on our Podcasts and Interviews Page, in the publications section. 
 
The podcast is called Stand With Them and will explore heroes of the public defense world. I wanted listeners (hopefully, all of you) to feel inspired by the subjects of the podcast, ready and willing to rise up and stand with them, like the true heroes you all are.
 
As much as this podcast is about the person being interviewed, it’s also about you: The line public defender, the overworked investigator, and the overburdened office manager. The people who are explored in this podcast are no different than all of you. Every single one of us has the capacity to do something great: To fight against governmental overreach, to protect our clients’ constitutional rights, and to cheer on a team member. In summation, you’re all heroes, just like the subjects of this podcast.
 
The first episode of this podcast features Toussaint Romain, an Assistant Public Defender in Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to being a public defender and a professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Toussaint is a community leader: pushing for positive change in the community that he loves.
 
Recently, Toussaint made national headlines by holding the line between protestors and police officers in the protests that followed the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, all while rocking a dress shirt and tie. This episode focuses on Toussaint’s views of the shooting, the protests that followed, and his vision for public defenders and other members of the public defense world. His interview is a message of hope, filled with words of encouragement to keep you going even on the toughest days.
 
So all ye who are weary, come: Listen to the podcast. Take 30 minutes out of your day to recognize the hero you already are. Toussaint wants to stand with you. Will you stand with him?
