• Two national defense organizations, including a representative of the private bar, have asked New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to rescind a proposal that aims to make changes to New York’s sweeping discovery reforms that require prosecutors and defense attorneys work swiftly toward evidence-sharing in criminal cases as of 2020.

“We write to you with a united voice and call on you to withdraw your Executive Proposal within the Public Protection and General Government legislation that will effectively repeal those landmark discovery laws, decimating fairness and reducing efficiency in the courts,” the National Association for Public Defense and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in a recent letter to Hochul.
