Shayla Marshall is a District Defender for the Missouri State Public Defender System where she leads a staff of ten through aggressively defending poor children and adults ensnared in the criminal legal system. Shayla has practiced criminal law for ten years with a focus on litigating racial bias, diversity and inclusion and community-oriented defense. Shayla is a member of the National Black Public Defender Association, the National Association for Public Defense, the Missouri Bar Criminal Law Committee, the National Bar Association and the National Black Female Attorney Network. She is an avid reader, amusement park enthusiast and mom of two preschoolers, who, like seasoned litigators, are pressuring her to buy a dog in exchange for clean bedrooms. She’s considering taking the deal.
