Joshua Perry’s debut novel, Seraphim, about public defenders in New Orleans, will be released July 23 by Melville House. He was a public defender in for ten years, including five years as head of the city’s public defender for youth. Now he serves as Connecticut’s Solicitor General, responsible for all the state’s (non-criminal) appellate litigation. This essay is his opinion alone.
