She hit the ground sprinting in this job, and has not stopped: reaching out to many stakeholders, hiring staff, and surviving her first legislative session. Previously, Joanna worked as an appellate attorney with the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association, representing indigent defendants on appeal to the Utah Court of Appeals and Utah Supreme Court. She has also worked for Third District Court judges as an attorney law clerk to several civil and criminal judges in Salt Lake and Summit Counties. Joanna was the Chair of the Utah State Bar Appellate Practice Section from 2014-2016; she is on the programming committee for the 2016-2017 David K. Watkiss Sutherland II Inns of Court; she was a member and Vice President of the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law’s Young Alumni Board from 2013-2016; and has served in leadership with the Young Lawyer’s Division and Women Lawyers of Utah. Joanna is a 2006 graduate of the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, and she holds a B.A. from Wellesley College. She grew up in Colorado but has called Utah home since 2003.
