It is one thing to have a functioning public defender office, staffed at the proper levels, with adequate caseloads, fighting for your clients in court. It is an entirely different battle to fight for policy changes with legislators and policy makers in State Houses, Congress, or any other place that policy makers work. Today on the Public Defenseless Podcast, I sat down with David Kaplan and Sara Hildebrand. Both are former Public Defenders and are both currently members of the Aurora Municipal Public Defender Commission.

With their such a wide breadth of experience, I felt David and Sara could provide excellent insight into the differences between court room advocacy and legislative advocacy. In doing so, I hope you get a small peak behind the curtain of how decisions are made, the vital importance that Public Defender Commissions play in ensuring the right policy is in place to support zealous advocacy, and much much more!
