The Yolo County Public Defender’s Office hosted the first annual Holistic Defense Fundraiser on March 15th, 2019.

The fundraiser coincided with the 56th anniversary of Gideon v. Wainwright, the landmark Supreme Court decision which guaranteed quality legal representation to everyone who could not afford it.

The fundraiser drew hundreds of people who drank beer and bid on more than 70 silent auction items. The event drew county attorneys, Yolo County supervisors, City Council members from cities within the county, as well as others in law enforcement and social justice advocates.

Funds raised will support some of the county's most vulnerable clients through holistic defense services. Holistic defense is a model of criminal defense which involves stepping outside of the courtroom to understand clients’ complex social needs and advocating for means to address those needs that are unmet.
