The Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Central District of California (FPD-CAC) is
accepting applications for full-time attorney to specialize in handling post-sentencing
proceedings, which will primarily involve supervised release and probation violation hearings.
The attorney will be stationed in Los Angeles, California, but may need to make court

by zealously advocating in federal court for the constitutional rights and inherent dignity of
individuals who are accused or convicted of crimes and cannot afford their own lawyer.
The FPD-CAC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All applicants, regardless of race, ethnicity,
national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or age, are encouraged to
apply.
Job Duties: The attorney will represent indigent individuals charged with violating the
conditions of their supervised release or probation. Core job duties include appearing on behalf
of clients in court hearings, including preliminary revocation hearings, evidentiary hearings and
sentencings; preparing for and examining witnesses during evidentiary hearings; visiting clients
in jail; connecting clients with services with help from the office’s Social Support Unit;
negotiating with the U.S. Probation Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office; collaborating with
investigators, paralegals, and other staff; and drafting any necessary legal briefs and memoranda.
The attorney must be available to work during regular business hours, and when necessary,
during evenings and weekends. Upon completing a probationary period, the attorney may work
remotely up to two days a week, depending on their court calendar.
