Qualifications
Two years of experience supervising and directing a branch office or major legal section of a public defense agency, or similar agnecy, in a management capacity AND a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
License: Admission to practice law in all courts in California.
Desirables
• Familiarity with current legislative affairs of Los Angeles County’s Office of the Public Defender.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current State and Federal laws and legislation and how it impacts Los Angeles County.
• National presence in the public defense community.
• A proven track record of directing the planning and delivery of information to ensure communication is in alignment with organization’s mission.
• Ability to devise and implement a strategic communications plan to better understand the importance of the Department’s mission and vision, and the LA County Board of Supervisor’s Care First, Jails Last vision.
• Experience in Labor Relations including memorandum of understanding negotiations, meeting and conferring with labor representatives regarding personnel and organizational matters.
• Highly analytical and strategic with a creative and hands-on leadership style.
• Success working in a State, County, or municipal organization, responding to the goals of elected officials as they meet the needs of constituents.
• Exceptional project management, verbal, writing and communications skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
ANNUAL SALARY: $228,029‐$354,632
Salary will be determined based upon qualifications. This is an unclassified (at‐will) position and is subject to the provisions of the County’s Management Appraisal and Performance Plan (MAPP) at the MAPP Range of R19. This is a new position, subject to Board approval.

• Retirement Plan – The successful candidate will participate in a contributory defined benefit plan.
• Cafeteria Benefit Plan – Benefits may be purchased from the MegaFlex Cafeteria Benefit Plan using a tax‐free County contribution of an additional 14.5% ‐ 17% of the employee’s monthly salary.
• Flexible Spending Accounts – Optional employee tax‐free health care spending account.
• Savings Plan (401k) – Optional tax‐deferred income plan that may include a County matching contribution up to 4% of employee’s salary.
• Deferred Compensation Plan (457) – Optional tax‐deferred income plan that may include a County matching contribution up to 4% of employee’s salary.
