NAPD Welcomes Renee Brodsky as New Assistant Training Director

NAPD is pleased to welcome Renee Brodsky, Esq., as its Assistant Training Director. This new role will support the Training Director in expanding NAPD’s high-quality, cost-effective training programs.

“Training is at the heart of what we do at NAPD,” says Executive Director, Lori James-Townes. “I have worked with Renee for over a decade, and I have total confidence in her ability to create training programs that inspire all defense team members to become stronger, more confident advocates.”

Renee is a career public defender. She was a trial attorney in Atlanta for 12 years and an Attorney Trainer at the Maryland Office of the Public Defender (MOPD) for 15 years. In Maryland, she developed training for all MOPD employees in a variety of areas, including continuing legal education for staff and panel attorneys; trial skills; social work; immigration; forensics; management and leadership training; and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She organized the agency’s 3-day annual conference, featuring over 50 sessions; coordinated a two-week New Hire Training (the first Gideon’s Promise Certified in-house public defender training); created a mentorship program; and developed a train-the-trainers program.

“NAPD has a full calendar of conferences, courses, and webinars, and we are continually finding new ways to support public defense trainers,” says Jeff Sherr, Training Director. “Renee has the training development, management, and evaluation skills we need to keep our programs top tier.”

Renee is based in Solon, Ohio, near Cleveland. She joins the NAPD team on April 1.
