SUMMARY:Film Screening of Sansón and Me
DESCRIPTION:Sansón and Me is a story a decade in the making\, which began when filmmaker Rodrigo Reyes served as a court interpreter in rural California for the then 19-year old Sansón Noé Andrade\, an undocumented Mexican immigrant who was sentenced to two life sentences without parole. The film is a vibrant portrait of a friendship navigating immigration and the depths of mass incarceration. Sansón and Me pushes the boundaries of cinematic imagination to rescue a young person’s story from oblivion\, and makes the case for a justice system that works to protect those who are vulnerable\, rather than continue to reinforce cycles of violence.\n\nThe nonprofit Represent Justice is running a national impact campaign to bring the film and conversations about incarceration and immigration with Sansón and Rodrigo to prisons\, lawyers\, journalism schools\, advocacy organizations and community programs: https://www.representjustice.org/campaigns/sanson-and-me/.\n\nThis webinar screening of Sansón and Me will be followed by a group discussion of the film and the ways in which the most vulnerable in the legal system can be served.\n\nThis film by Rodrigo Reyes is brought to you by Represent Justice and the webinar\, screening\, and discussion are hosted by the National Association for Public Defense.
